Lawrence Weiner Cause of Death – Passed Away: American artist Lawrence Weiner sadly passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was 72 years old at the time. Details surrounding his death are not unknown at the time of this report. Lawrence Weiner is well-known for his use of language in his art, seeing it as an accessible and adaptable medium that invites the audience to think in new ways.

Lawrence Weiner was born in the Bronx in 1942, where his parents own a candy business. Weiner graduated from New York’s top public Stuyvesant High School at the age of 16. He worked odd jobs in the maritime and transportation industries, including working aboard an oil tanker and on docks, as well as unloading railcars.

By 1968, when he published his “Declaration of Intent” in his debut collection, Statements, he had moved his focus to pieces that comprised of concise directions or descriptions, such as “Two minutes of spray paint straight on the floor.” Weiner was commissioned by New York’s Public Art Fund in 2000 to collaborate with Con Edison on a set of manhole covers for use in Lower Manhattan.

Weiner exhibited extensively during the course of his approximately sixty-year career. He had an exhibition at Dublin’s Kerlin Gallery earlier this year. He received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2013. (2013).
