He was born in the year 1953 in Arnhem Land, a vast wilderness area in the northeast corner of Australia’s Northern Territory, defined by rocky escarpments, gorges, rivers, and waterfalls. He was a creative painter and dancer. He attended the school at Maningrida also known as Manayingkarírra and Manawukan, which is an Aboriginal community in the heart of the Arnhem Land region of Australia’s Northern Territory.
David was appointed a bonafide Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1987, an honor that recognizes Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service, he was awarded The Tracker Best Actor in a Leading Role in the year 2002, he was awarded the inaugural Don Dunstan Award at the Adelaide Film Festival in the year 2003.
