A former member of the Council of Senior Scholars, Dr. Qais bin Muhammad Al Sheikh Mubarak, confirmed that breeding predatory animals and keeping them in homes thinking that they are forbidden is not permissible. Because of the danger in her presence, and the intimidation of people, and harming people is forbidden, especially if her imprisonment in homes is without interest.
He explained that the basic principle in the acquisition and breeding of animals is permissibility. Pointing out that breeding permissible animals is permissible, such as parrots and birds, whether they are raised to enjoy their beauty or the best of their voices, or otherwise, as they are permissible, and there was no prohibition, neither to sell nor to acquire them. Confirming the proof of the permissibility of adopting it, as Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, had a young brother called Abu Umair, who had a small bird, of the type of nightingale, called the nagr. He said: “O Abu Umair, what did Al-Naghir do?”
And Al-Sheikh Mubarak pointed out that what is dangerous and harmful, such as predatory animals such as the lion, wolf, snake, lizards and others, did not intend to prohibit them if they were in a safe place such as zoos or remote farms.
