Amid increasing crime in American schools, at least six people, including three children, were killed in a shooting at a private school in Nashville, Tennessee, yesterday (Monday), before police shot and killed the attacker, who appeared to be a teenage girl.

Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters that they began receiving reports of someone shooting at Covenant School at 10:13 am local time, indicating that the police heard gunfire coming from the second floor of the school.

Arun explained that the shooter was carrying at least two semi-automatic rifles and a handgun, but two policemen from a team of five shot her in a hallway and she died. "We don't know who she is at this point," he added.

The police explained that the attacker shot three of the workers, killing them, while no one was injured, while John Hauser, a spokesman for Monroe Carroll Junior Children's Hospital in Vanderbilt, said in a statement that three students died after arriving at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

A local TV channel reported that the school caters for pre-school through sixth grade students and has organized a practical marksmanship training program in 2022.

Yesterday, US President Joe Biden described the shooting at an elementary school in Nashville as “abhorrent,” stressing that armed attacks tear the spirit of the United States.

“This is an abhorrent act,” Biden said in a speech at the White House, warning against armed violence as it rips the soul of the American nation, and calling on Congress again to ban the sale of automatic weapons to individuals.
