upper east side fire

Multiple firefighters are combating a fire inside an apartment in the Upper East Side early Tuesday morning.

The outbreak was reported at about 6:15 a.m. in the five-story residential building located on First Avenue, at the intersection of East 95th Street. AIR11 was over the scene outside the building as heavy smoke rose through the air.

Investigators say the fire may have started from one of the two restaurants on the ground floor of the building, either a Domino’s pizza shop or an eatery named Dragon One. Residents of the area have been urged to shut off their windows and openings to avoid the heavy smoke spreading the scene.

Motorists have been advised to take alternative routes and to also expect traffic delays in the area due to the outbreak. No injuries have so far been reported.
