Taif abounds with many historical mosques that express the civilizational dimension of the province, and bear witness to the succession of nations and generations in it throughout history, including the Abdullah bin Abbas Mosque in Al-Muthanna neighborhood, which still preserves the elements of urban heritage.

The importance of the mosque is due to the fact that it is attributed to the ink of the nation, Abdullah bin Al-Abbas, the great companion and the great interpreter, and he is the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and Ibn Abbas was famous for his easy jurisprudence; And when Abu Jaafar al-Mansur asked Imam Malik to write the "Moudawana", he advised him to make a middle ground between the licenses of Ibn Abbas and the strictness of Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them.

The mosque is built of rocks and tree trunks from the surrounding local environment, and the Heritage Authority registered it in the National Register of Architectural Heritage among the 41 heritage and urban sites a few months ago, to be considered the real, officially recognized mosque of Ibn al-Abbas in Taif, as the Heritage Authority only registered it in the governorate.

The Commission stated that it is one of the historical mosques and consists of an open, rectangular courtyard in which local stones were used in its construction, and its construction dates back to the year 592 AH, and that it is one of the protected sites under the Antiquities, Museums and Architectural Heritage System issued by Royal Decree No. M / 3 dated 9/1/ 1436 AH, and any assault on the site by removing, obliterating, distorting or writing will expose its owner to the penalty stipulated in the system.

The mosque is located east of the foot of Jabal al-Madhoun, and its architecture is distinguished by the Islamic style inside, as it includes three arches inside, and it accommodates about four rows of worshipers. It is adjacent to a number of mosques and ancient historical evidence such as Al-Qantara, Al-Kou’, and the Addas Mosque, which picked a cluster of grapes from one of the nearby orchards and gifted it to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. God bless him and grant him peace.

The Ibn Al-Abbas Mosque in Al-Muthana was on the map of the Tourism Revitalization Committee in the past, as an old plaque was placed on it until the Heritage Authority announced its registration in the National Register of Architectural Heritage in Saudi Arabia.
