A US State Department spokesperson confirmed today (Saturday) that two US citizens have disappeared in Haiti, commenting on media reports that a Forida couple had been kidnapped in Haiti.
"The government is aware of reports of two nationals missing in Haiti," the spokesman said, adding, "When a US citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they conduct search efforts."
The petition was published by a woman on the Internet, in which she said that she was a relative of the couple, Anne Abigail Toussaint and Jean Dickens Toussaint, who are 33 years old, who were kidnapped near the capital, Port-au-Prince, and they have been held for days, explaining that they were on a trip for a family visit and to attend Festival when they were kidnapped while on a bus, according to CNN.
Haitian gangs have grown in strength since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, and many areas of the capital and most of the countryside are considered outlaws.
