Zachary T. Barse Death : 28-year-old Zachary T. Barse has been identified as the man shot to death during hunting on Thanksgiving Day in Phelps N.Y, Finger Lakes.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says the 28-year-old man, of Gorham, was located at about 11 a.m. Thursday by officers, who respond to a 911 call from 61-year-old Kevin M. Hudson of Clifton Springs, who stated that a man had been shot with a hunting rifle at the intersection of Phelps. Arriving Deputies administered first aid, but Barse was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says in a press statement early Friday morning;

Barse and Mr. Hudson (acquaintances) were hunting together in a wooded area on the north side of Cross Road in the town of Phelps. Mr. Barse shot a deer and was attempting to track it. That track was leading back in the general direction of where Mr. Hudson was located in a tree stand. As Mr. Barse approached the area of Mr. Hudson’s tree stand, Mr. Hudson took a shot.”The shot struck Barse in the upper body, Hudson climbed down from his tree stand and discovered he had struck Barse. He called 911 and commenced CPR until emergency services arrived.

Investigations are ongoing. It is not immediately known if charges will be filed against Hudson..
