The Maritime Radio Services Regulation Document specified the duration of the license granted for its services to ship stations, coastal stations, lighthouses and radars for the purposes of communications, navigation, distress and life safety for a period ranging from one year to a maximum of 5 years.
The document, which the Communications, Space and Technology Commission invited the public to provide their views on, indicated that the technical specifications of the devices must comply with the technical specifications published by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission on its website.
This document comes in line with the Authority’s role in regulating maritime radio services, raising the level of efficiency and quality of using bands in the Kingdom, in accordance with international best practices, providing frequencies for all marine radio services in the Kingdom, and ensuring that these frequencies are compatible with international regulations and are safe from any radio interference. In addition to adopting innovative and flexible methods for licensing marine radio systems.
The Authority urged those interested and the public to express their views and submit their suggestions, based on its interest in achieving clarity, transparency and the involvement of all relevant parties, including individuals who own boats and yachts, and companies operating in the maritime transport sector, in addition to seaports. She indicated that the visuals can be received until April 19, 2023, through the authority’s website. According to the document, it aims to regulate the use of marine radio services, and raise the efficiency of the use of frequency bands in them, by redistributing the channels used in marine radio systems, and promoting the optimal use of the frequency spectrum for marine radio services in the Kingdom through effective management of interference cases, and enhancing technologies emerging maritime radio services, coordinating national and international allocations related to the frequency spectrum for marine radio services, including coordination with neighboring countries, managing the frequency spectrum for marine radio services according to a clear, transparent and comprehensive mechanism that looks to the future without discrimination, and improving the quality of service in marine radio services operating in the Kingdom.
