The departure of the goalkeeper of the national team's den and Al-Nasr club, player Salem Marawan, was not silent, as was the period of his illness with quadriplegia, which prevented him from attending social and sports events for more than 32 years. The collective memory of the Saudi fans still preserves the greatest football victories, to which (Abu Marwan) contributed efforts and achievements that our sports history cannot ignore, and it is not too much for the national team to mourn him, and the eyes of victory cry for him.

The most famous Saudi football goalkeeper, Captain Salem Marawan, passed away, leaving a human and creative legacy. He represented the national team in the 1976 Friendship Tournament in Iran, participated in the World Cup qualifiers in 1978 and 1982, and guarded the national team’s den in the Gulf tournaments in Qatar, Iraq and Riyadh. He represented the national team in the Asian Olympiad in Seoul, and contributed shares. Significantly, the Saudi team achieved the silver of the Games, and shone in front of the great players from the stars of the Iraqi and Kuwaiti national teams, and the team reached the final after blocking penalties against Kuwait and Iraq.

He has great love among the athletes of all their inclinations, and the visits of colleagues and friends did not stop him in light of his honorable family’s care for him, and on the 21st of the last month of Sha’ban, he passed away to God’s mercy.

The deceased was subjected to a terrible traffic accident on the Taif-Riyadh road, while returning from performing Umrah rituals in the month of Ramadan from 1411 AH on the Riyadh road. Which caused him to be quadriplegic.

The deceased stayed for more than three decades with suffering, fortified with patience, seeking help from God, and relying on the shoulders of his family and children. The deceased remained in high spirits, despite his condition and confinement to the white bed. And he was accepted and loved by all the masses, by virtue of his politeness, good dealings, and keenness on social relations, and communication with his relatives, neighbors, and fellow players.
