Despite the declared humanitarian truce by both sides of the fighting in Sudan, clashes and exchanges of fire are still continuing in the vicinity of the Republican Palace in the capital, amid heavy flight of warplanes over Khartoum North. A few hours after the entry into force of a new, fragile truce, the sound of bullets rose, and the flames of confrontation between the warring parties flared up in the early hours of the morning, today (Thursday). Explosions were heard in different parts of the capital, Khartoum, specifically around the headquarters of the Armed Forces General Command.
Smoke rose in the vicinity of the General Command after hearing explosions, shells and an exchange of gunfire in the vicinity of the area.
The leadership of the Sudanese police forces accused the Rapid Support Forces of violating the armistice immediately after it came into effect, after it brought armed men into the Ministry of Interior and the Traffic Police Department. The Sudanese army denied responsibility for the fragile truce, stressing that the Rapid Support Forces did not abide by it, and accused them of launching attacks on strategic sites around the airport and the General Command building.
For its part, the Rapid Support Forces announced that they had responded to an attack launched by the army in western Omdurman today, and said: Our forces are committed to their positions and to the ceasefire since the armistice was announced, and we shot down two army helicopters while responding to its attack in western Omdurman.
The two parties had announced their agreement to a new truce that entered into force for a period of 24 hours and began from six o'clock in the evening yesterday (Wednesday), to end at six o'clock in the evening today (Thursday) – local time; With the aim of facilitating the humanitarian aspects, provided that the two sides abide by the armistice.
