While the White House expressed its concern about what is happening in Israel, the Israeli Consul General in New York announced, yesterday (Sunday), his resignation in protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant from his post, on the grounds of his rejection of the judicial amendments.

Consul Assaf Zamir said in his resignation letter: I cannot serve in a government led by Netanyahu, explaining that the political situation in Israel has reached a critical point.

Zamir described the decision to dismiss Gallant as "dangerous", noting that the judicial amendments legislation, which Gallant called for to stop working on it, yesterday (Saturday), undermines the foundation of the democratic system and threatens the rule of law in Israel.

The Israeli Army Radio reported that the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense cut short his visit to the United States and decided to return to Tel Aviv, following the dismissal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, from his position due to his rejection of the judicial amendments.

The dismissed defense minister had opposed Netanyahu's controversial plan to amend the Israeli judicial system, calling for halting legislation on judicial amendments and conducting dialogue with opponents, warning of the existence of enormous threats with the arrival of what he described as a "split" within the Israeli army.

Thousands of Israelis took to the streets, yesterday, to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, while the Israeli police dispersed the protesters in Tel Aviv with water cannons, and demonstrators went to Netanyahu's house to protest against the dismissal of the Minister of Defense, which prompted the Israeli police to intervene by preventing them and clashing with them.

According to Israeli media, demonstrators in Jerusalem are chanting that they will not leave the streets unless Netanyahu resigns, while the Prime Minister is currently holding a meeting to discuss developments in the situation.
