As the Sudan war entered its fifth day, without any signs of the possibility of a ceasefire appearing on the horizon, amid loud explosions near the vicinity of the General Command in central Khartoum, the army forces and the Rapid Support Forces exchanged accusations of violating the armistice.
The Sudanese army spokesman accused the RSF of not adhering to the truce requirements, pointing out that the army continues to secure the General Command building and perform its duties. He added that the Rapid Support Forces committed violations in Marawi and Khartoum North. The army posted on its official Facebook page a video clip of its forces lining up before a second phase of operations. He broadcast a video from central Khartoum, saying he had made progress by seizing vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces.
On the other hand, the Rapid Support Forces accused the army of moving military forces and armed groups from various cities to Khartoum, and reported that the army was carrying out attacks with heavy weapons on the locations of its forces, causing the death of civilians. She added that the army continues to bombard residential gatherings, accusing the army of breaking the declared truce and continuing to launch attacks. It said that the army's attacks resulted in the killing and wounding of civilians and the destruction of hospitals.
According to the Associated Press, the death toll from the clashes rose to at least 270.
The violent clashes began in the capital a few hours after the 24-hour truce entered into force on Tuesday evening, while the two sides exchanged accusations and held responsibilities.
The bloody fighting between the two major military forces in the country began last week, days after the Rapid Support Forces pushed about 100 vehicles towards the Marawi base in the northern state, in addition to some vehicles at their centers in Khartoum, which provoked the army, which confirmed that these mobilizations were illegal and took place without coordination. with him.
However, the Rapid Support Forces confirmed that they had coordinated with the armed forces, refusing to withdraw these mechanisms, so that fighting would break out later, in a country that, since 2019, has been trying to find its way towards a new democratic rule, turning the page on ousted President Omar al-Bashir. However, well-informed sources confirmed that the two sides began military build-up weeks ago.
