Michaela Carter Death: Authorities say the 24-year-old woman injured during a domestic incident in Antioch has succumbed to her injuries.
During a press release Tuesday, Antioch Police say the victim, Michaela Carter was pronounced dead on Monday at the hospital she was transported to for gunshot injuries to her upper torso and leg. 27-year-old James Leggett, identified as the victim’s ex-boyfriend is accused of the killing.
Preliminary investigations connote that Leggett banged the door of the home Carter and her father lived in and then opened fire, fatally striking the female victim and her dad sustained some gunshot injuries to the jaw and hand. He was taken to the hospital in a stable condition.
The statement also noted that Carter had an active order of protection against Leggett at the time of the shooting. Leggett was arrested and remains jailed on a $1.2 million bond. He faces a criminal homicide charge and other additional charges of ;
